Ample Scientific CM501 Nexcope Semi-Plan 4X10X40X100X Objectives, W10X/20 mm Eyepiece Professional Binocular Microscope Overview
The Ample Scientific CM501 Nexcope compound, biological research microscope has binocular viewing heads, a widefield 10XD eyepiece with a field number (FN) of 20 mm, and 4XD, 10XD, 40XRD (sealed), and 100XRD (oil immersion method) objectives and semi-plan lenses. This microscope, with its compound optical system, enhances object or image resolution, and is commonly used for biological research by professionals in medical, veterinary, and post-secondary institutions.
This microscope features Seidentopf binocular viewing heads that rotate 360 degrees on two axes, and provides a wide inter-pupillary range. Adjustable resolution provides 4XD, 10XD phase, 40XRD semi-plan (sealed), and 100XRD (oil immersion method) objectives for a range of viewing abilities. The microscope has a multi-discipline illumination system with brightfield to illuminate from below, and darkfield illumination to enhance contrast. Semi-plan lenses show sharper images. It has dimmable, long-life, 3-Watt LED illumination. LED illumination creates a more uniform output at any level, and a high, white light beam with cool temperature (6000 Kelvin) produces little to no heat, compared to traditional bulbs. An Abbe 1.25 Numerical Aperture (NA) sealed condenser with an aperture controls the diameter of light cast on the specimen. A reversed nosepiece faces outward, which protects the objectives while providing clear access to the specimen stage. The microscope has a precision coaxial focus mechanism for viewing adjustment. It has a large, low-drive, graphite-coated, research-grade mechanical stage which is scratch-resistant and accommodates two slides. An anti-mold head and all-metal gearing provide durability.

Microscopes are instruments used to enhance the resolution of an object or image. There are three types of microscopes: compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying viewing abilities. A trinocular eyepiece is used to output digital images to an internal or external device such as a camera or monitor. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution. Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also use LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries.
Ample Scientific LLC manufactures laboratory equipment and supplies such as microscopes and centrifuges. Founded in 2009, and headquartered in Norcross, GA, Ample Scientific offers scientific equipment for research, educational, clinical and industrial applications.
